so. my friend decided to start a race war up in new paltz. the story behind it is gold. but im just gonna sit, watch and wait

alllriiiiiight. i’ma set this shit straight. write out kind of like a narrative to this issue…
ON NOVEMBER 8TH, 2011, THE DAY AFTER BLACK SOLIDARITY DAY…I was working in a lab down the hallway from this water fountain. the printer wasn’t working so i called this lady to come through and fix it around 10:50am. my shift was done at 11am, left the lab and saw my friend drinking water at this fountain.
“hey wasup??”
“hey..umm..i’m just looking at this thing on the water fountain *points*”
“oo0o0o0ohhh what the fuck??????”
I call over my two friends to check it out. Then I stopped ppl to see this shit n talk about it. Some white dude came n was like “oh at least you got the taller fountain lol”

yeah, told him the shit wasn’t funny, wtf did that mean. i don’t have patience for white privilege ignorance and since it’s not my job to teach white people about racism i didn’t waste my time. remember the women fixing the printer? she came through and tried to take the sticker off saying it’s not a big deal. FUCK OUTA HERE THIS SHIT IS A BIG DEAL! i was like no, we want more ppl to see this. she took it off, i took it from her, she left, i put it back on, then this person of color came n tried takin it off, insisting we should ignore it (WHAATTTT DUDE, i wish i had the time to engage dialogue with this brother) i said iite fuck this ima just keep it. me and my two friends walked around showing ppl the sticker, tryna blow it up, tryna get ppl riled up, tryna get ppl concerned, raise awareness, show ppl that racism exists on this campus just like it does all around us. fuck a post racial society, why pretend to be colorblind?
iite check this then, about an hour later I was in class, Black Sociology, taught by Professor Karanja K. Carroll, one of the very few professors on this campus who actually calls racism for what it is - white supremacy. i told the class about it, and passed the sticker around for everyone to see. then a fuckin cop comes to the class asking for the sticker and for any pics that i took. i lied telling him i didnt have it. i dont trust the cops here, i dont trust the administration here, students of color have been recently treated like SHIT here by SUNY New Paltz (i.e. black dude kicked off campus for scratching his balls in his own dorm; black girl thrown and pinned on the ground by 3 cops and arrested.) eventually i gave him the sticker. the cops are “investigating it.”
later in the day, we found this tumblr post by the-loaded-gun who’s actually friends with the person who did this racist shit. wwhhaaaaaat, this shit becomin a law and order episode! (the-loaded-gun actually deleted the original post, i hmmmmm…i was able to salvage this from my friend’s tumblr who responded above.)
then the NEXT DAY, we found out about this:
this shit was found in a residence hall on campus the same day.

iite my shit is this, i don’t trust the administration or cops here, so my concern is that they’re gonna try to suppress the issue, reassuring students that everything is under control, maintaining the happy-go-lucky kumbaya fairytale land that is advertised about New Paltz. the school president sent a letter to the students, so the fuck what? MY objective is to spread this shit like wildfire, to make ppl aware of this racist shit. this is a beautiful opportunity to come in solidarity as students of color, ESPECIALLY on the week of BLACK SOLIDARITY DAY.
Currently, the Student Association, the Black Student Union, the Dept. of Black Studies, and other students here at New Paltz are organizing a student-led open forum program next week to further discuss what actions to take as students. we have to keep this alive. just like the Troy Davis execution, this shit can’t be forgotten. People need to realize that racism is literally killing us, and these racist incidents at SUNY New Paltz shows that this school is a microcosm of the racist society we live in. we can’t just be colorblind and ignore it. and like a professor told me, it shouldn’t take crises like this to bring people of color together. the conversation should be ongoing, because racism is still ongoing socially, academically, politically, and, most importantly, institutionally.

What the fuck. And we’re supposed to believe that college students are somehow smart and talented people who are the future? Fuck that. Most of the kids I went/go to school and see around town are assholes with no knowledge of anything other than beer and where the best ski spots are.
I DO NOT understand how anyone can think this shit is in any way ok at all ever.
